NFL hires Joe Rogan as new Chief Medical Officer, Infectious Diseases

#TrustScience

After it was revealed last week that Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers misled the public into believing he was vaccinated against COVID-19, the NFL has announced that Fear Factor’s Joe Rogan will be the league’s new Chief Medical Officer, Infectious Diseases. Best known for hosting a reality show where contestants would eat boiled buffalo testicles to win cash prizes, Rogan’s medical opinion was cited by Rodgers as one of the reasons he opted for unconventional COVID treatment. That treatment included taking monoclonal antibodies, zinc, vitamin C, D, HCQ, and ivermectin, a drug commonly associated with treating parasitic horses, and one that has not been authorized or approved by the FDA in preventing or treating COVID-19. “I've consulted with a now-good friend of mine, Joe Rogan after he got COVID, and I've been doing a lot of the stuff that he recommended in his podcasts and on the phone to me…and I feel pretty incredible,” Rodgers said. Both the team and the NFL have been criticized for knowing about Rodgers’ vaccine status and still allowing him to take part in press conferences unmasked, potentially putting others at risk. Since the NFL doesn’t want to be put in the same position as any other star players who might also rely on health information from a podcaster with no formal training in medicine, Commissioner Roger Goodell stated there was only one option left. “I agree it’s bad optics to have one of our most marketable players and reigning MVP, follow the medical guidance of a reality show host. But what if we appointed that reality show host to the position of Chief Medical Officer in charge of infectious diseases?” Goodell said. “That way anything that might sound like outlandish misinformation, is suddenly just medical recommendations from a legit-sounding expert.” Goodell continued, “We appreciate Aaron Rodgers being a free thinker. And if that free-thinking involves getting your COVID advice from Dr. Joe Rogan, then so be it.”
